Kamchatka is the biggest peninsula in East Asia, it is situated between the Bering channel and the Okhotsk sea. The population here is about 350 thousand people, most of them are citizens of bog cities – Petropavlovsk and Elizovo. Since recently became the peninsula free for tourists. Previously even USSR citizens, not to mention tourists, had to show special pass to be on this territory.
Kamchatka is a land of volcanoes (more then 160), geysers and full-flowing rivers, rich landscapes, boundless taiga and huge open places down by the riversides.
For several more years it was a great adventure to come to these wild places. And the trip itself – a plane to the modern airport of Petropavlovsk – Kamchatsky, well-organized hunting, wilderness, and above all – the great number of huge bears, guaranties an amazing trip and unforgettable hunting.
The last decade Among the hunters Kamchatka has ranked first in the world in brown bear trophy stock. The results of capteured trophies prove this fact. Moreover, the service is at a very high level.
Kamchatka brown bear is the largest species representative. It is due to the great fodder base especially in the period of salmon spawning. Animals get unlimited possibilities in plant and animal food. The weight of adult males ranges from 250 to 450 kg, females from 150 to 400 kg. Some of the specimens can reach weights up to 650-700 kg.
When it’s better to go to Kamchatka for a bear
If you look at the quality of the skins, it is better to hunt a bear in the spring. After hibernation its fur is thick, fluffy, without scuffs. And also its claws are healthy and are not worn out because of a long walking.
Spring hunting is in April and May, when there is still snow in the hunting areas, but the bears have already left the holes to search food. By the footsteps it’s easy to hunt them down. The receiving party provides the hunters with skis, snowshoes, snowmobiles and motor boats – for water ways.
Bears are hungry and rather angry after hibernation. From hunger they eat everything they find — carrion, catch rodents, eat their own kind. The bear is a cannibal. But the main diet — grass and shoots of plants and shrubs.
Autumn hunting is from the 20 August to the 30 November. Early hunting is more simple, but more exciting. Almost all bears are concentrated by rivers to eat salmon.
We cannot say definitely what time is more interesting. Summer and autumn are more colorful, but in spring the view of the huge bear moving in deep snow is an unforgettable sight.
Arrangement of hunting in Kamchatka
Certainly in the conditions of forest comfort for guest-hunters is limited. Hunters live in hunting seats, eat healthy food, which is prepared by experienced chefs. At the request of the hunter sauna may be arranged.
However, it is necessary to prepare physically and morally for the hunt, and also to take with you a set of necessary things and objects.
Firstly, comfortable waterproof shoes of good quality for a long walking. It is important it has a stabilizing profile sole and is well fitted in size. Lightweight, warm, comfortable, wind- and waterproof clothes. A good headdress, that protects you from cold winds and the sun, is important too.
Spring hunt. There is still a lot of snow. The weather is changeable at this time. Snowstorm with snow and strong wind, rain and even sun, all this can be in one day. Sunglasses and sunscreen must be with you, because white snow doubles the power of the sun’s rays, and you can quickly burn. The temperature at this time ranges from + 5C to — 10C
In the autumn hunt you cannot hunt without a mosquito net and mosquito repellent. The temperature ranges from + 20С to + 20С
Hants take place most often at a considerable distance from the city. There is hilly, taiga, endless area. There are many rivers and streams that do not even have names. there are many swamps between the hills. If you climb the mountain, you can admire the fantastic scenery.
What to do with the trophy
When you shoot the brown bear, skin with the head and paws is removed directly on a hunting place. Local hunters make it very quickly and very good. Then the skin is salted. Particular attention is paid to the ears, eyes, nose and lips. The trophy is kept in the cold place. In addition, the skull is processed. At the request of the client the skin is sent to the specified address.
